CMBL Knockout Final Divisions 4, 5 & 6 - "The Percy McDonald Shield"

Braintree A Team Winners of CMBL Percy McDonald Shield
The Braintree 'A' team bowlers, competing in the Central Midweek Bowling League’s ‘Percy McDonald Shield' final for Teams in Division 4, 5 and 6, created another historical achievement for their club by winning this trophy for the fourth consecutive year.

The final was played at the RHP (Chelmsford) bowling club which also featured finals of other CMBL team competitions for this year. Braintree 'A' team were matched against a strong team from Falcon's Bowling Club. This foursome team game was conducted over 21 ends with two teams from each club playing one another.  At the end of the match, the total scores of both teams were added together and the teams with the most shots were declared the winners.

Both Braintree teams started off tentatively, trying to adjust to the greens idiosyncrasies, seeing how fast the greens were, together with the adequate weight and accuracy to reach the 'jack'. The Falcon teams quickly coped with the greens and after 5 ends, their total score was 8 shots as opposed to Braintree's total of 6 shots.  It was not until the seventh end that the Braintree players started to adjust to the variants of the rinks and established a lead of 14 shots to 11shots.  At this point, all the Braintree bowlers from the Braintree teams were contributing to adding further shots, which eventually saw them taking an assailable lead, ending with a 50 shots to 26 shots victory, to take the shield for the fourth time.
